  • Nezhin cucumber became known in times of regency of Catherine the Second. Sovereign, when tasted a splendid vegetable during one of travels around spacious jurisdictional territory, commanded to provide imperial court with Nezhin cucumbers only. This order was in force in Petersburg till 1917. Being using this tsar's grace, the enterprising Nezhin citizens tried to promote on beneficial metropolitan market not only the "key product", but also tomatoes, eggplants, shell beans and squashes. After that the salted products from the North Ukraine turned out to be essential in 70 countries more.
  • On December 16, 2005 monument to Nezhin cucumber was officially unveiled in the city of Nezhin. According to a report, this is the first monument to vegetable in the Ukrainian territory. The monument represents composition of three components: cellar for storage of salted and canned products, barrel, in which the vegetables have been salted in the old days, and Nezhin cucumber
